Cruncher Inc.

Cruncher Inc. was originally formed as Lighthouse School Products, in 1997 with the objective of developing generic enhancement products such as attendance letters, reports and customer specific applications to work in conjunction with student information systems.

We got into the testing area in 1998 by our customers asking us to develop STAR Pre-Id and test reporting applications, and we developed similar applications for CELDT and HSEE. These legacy applications were developed in MS Access because it was the best tool at the time.

Back in 1999, one of our customers said "We'd really like the teachers to be able to see the test scores of their students". We said "print a report". They said "We want them to be able to see it on their computers". At the time, and with the tools available such an undertaking would have been cost prohibitive.

A couple of years later, a generation later in hardware and software, we revisited the problem. Personal computers and servers were faster, operating systems were stable, and software tools were improved. We decided to develop a prototype of Cruncher to see how it would work, and it worked great.

But we realized we had a problem on our hands. Installation and configuration of Cruncher was complex, requiring knowledge of Windows, the IIS web server software, and the SQL server software.

Cruncher Inc. started out as a company that developed and supported software applications that our customers had to manage, but that's not what they needed anymore. Customers need results, not more work to do.

Districts we were working with were already overloaded and dropping a complex application like Cruncher on them to deal with would have been a road to failure, so we decided to take on the management of Cruncher and other applications for those initial districts.

And that's how the Cruncher Solution was born. It's a simple concept - a service where we manage the software and data processing aspects and provide you with the tools you need to do your job.
